ACTION ALERT: Support BizFed leader’s reappointment to Regional Planning Commission

Share This :

We're calling on all members to step up for one of our own! BizFed leader Pam O’Connor, a longtime Santa Monica City Council member and five-time Santa Monica mayor, is seeking reappointment to the Los Angeles County Regional Planning Commission. We're asking YOU to help amplify our reappointment campaign.

  • Pam has spent decades championing policies and partnerships that enhance community livability, sustainability, and well-being.

  • She served as a regional councilmember for the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) for 20 years.

  • As SCAG President, she led the 84-member Regional Council to unanimously adopt the region's first Sustainable Communities Strategy.

WHAT'S HAPPENING

Pam was initially appointed in January of this year to serve on the Regional Planning Commission by Supervisor Sheila Kuehl. As a result of Supervisor Kuehl's retirement and this year's election, new 3rd District Supervisor Lindsey Horvath will have a say in deciding who to appoint. We sent a letter this week to Supervisor Horvath highlighting Pam’s results-oriented leadership and why we feel it's beneficial for for 3rd District residents – and all Angelenos – to keep her on the commission.

TAKE ACTION

Speak up! Use your voices and platforms to urge Supervisor Horvath and the Board of Supervisors to swiftly reappoint Pam so our county and region will continue to benefit from her deep expertise and connections in the planning and development arena. We encourage you to borrow language from our support letter to shape your own advocacy messaging. Send your signed letters to Supervisor Horvath at thirddistrict@bos.lacounty.gov.

ABOUT THE COMMISSION

There are five commissioners on the Regional Planning Commission. They are appointed to four-year terms by the Board of Supervisors. In addition, there are four advisory, non-voting members: the Forester and Fire Warden, Director of Public Works, Superintendent of Parks and Recreation, and Agricultural Commissioner. The Regional Planning Commission acts as an advisory body to the Board of Supervisors on all planning matters and administers the State Planning Law, the State Subdivision Map Act, CEQA, and Los Angeles County Ordinances related to planning. Public hearings are conducted every Wednesday.

Onward!
