Victory Alert

ANOTHER AQMD VICTORY ALERT!

Share This :

On Friday, November 7, the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) voted 9-1 to approve the negotiated Cooperative Agreement. The vote represents a significant win for the nation’s largest port complex. The ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach support millions of jobs and generate hundreds of billions in economic activity.

The Cooperative Agreement emphasizes Southern California’s leadership in clean-air innovation. It builds on more than a decade of success under the San Pedro Bay Ports Clean Air Action Plan, which has already cut diesel particulate matter by 90%, nitrogen oxides by 70%, and sulfur oxides by 98% since 2005.

The Cooperative Agreement didn’t “just happen.” Its approval demonstrates what can be achieved when regulatory agencies and the regulated community work together toward common goals.

BizFed played a crucial role by collaborating with several members, including the Pacific Merchant Shipping Association, to ensure the Governing Board understood the positive impact the Cooperative Agreement would have on future port operations.

Today’s outcome is a result of the powerful advocacy from across the state, including many of our members. Here is the letter that was sent to the Governing Board before today’s vote.

Thank you for the following voices of these members who spoke at today’s hearing and
encouraged the SCAQMD Governing Board to pass the Cooperative Agreement.
