Please join Team BizFed in recognizing a vital new partner and reiterating our commitment to advancing sensible water solutions. Water policy leader Adán Ortega has been elected to serve as Chairman of the Metropolitan Water District’s Board of Directors. His two-year term leading the 38-member governing board is slated to begin January 1, 2023. In addition to representing district programs at the national, state, and local levels, Adán will be tasked with appointing all members of MWD’s 15 standing committees and leaders of special committees and task forces.

Adán has served on the MWD Board since 2019, representing the cities of Fullerton and San Fernando. During his time on the board, MWD and BizFed worked collaboratively to improve the resiliency, reliability, and affordability of the region’s water supply through efforts laser-focused on innovation, integration, and inclusion. We applaud General Manager Adel Hagekhalil, Chairwoman Gloria Gray, and our other partners at MWD for their unwavering commitment to giving all stakeholders a seat at the table.

We’re confident Adán will lead MWD to creatively and aggressively respond to unprecedented drought-related challenges. He previously served on the California Water Commission as an appointee of Governor Jerry Brown, and the California State Board of Food and Agriculture as an appointee of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger; he chaired the food and agriculture board’s water committee from 2005 to 2012.

Many of you had the privilege of hearing Adán speak at a BizFed Institute event at MWD headquarters in June. He stepped up to serve as a panelist at our Water & Climate Resiliency Forum, sharing insights about why Californians of all income levels choose to pay 100x more for bottled water and other obstacles we must overcome to achieve water resiliency. Onward toward a more resilient California!
