INFO ALERT: AQMD Pushes ISR Vote to May

Posted March 8th, 2021 | Status:

Yesterday, BizFed sent an alert regarding a potential illegal tax being proposed by the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD). Indirect Source Rules (ISRs) would require warehouses to limit the amount of trucks that come to their facilities, or pay a heavy mitigation fee. This “fee” does not benefit the warehouse and as such, should be considered a tax. The rule also does not specify how many emissions would be reduced and does not consider how difficult, if not impossible, it would be to implement. To learn more about the issue, click here.

The SCAQMD board voted 12-1 to postpone the vote until the May board meeting – citing concerns with the potential tax, the lack of time to review the rule, among others. This is a good, positive step to victory – but we are not done.

Long time chair of the SCAQMD, William Burke, also announced his retirement today. Dr. Burke, 81, has served on the board of the district since 1993 and is in his 13th term as Chair. The ISR issue is expected to be his last major vote as a member of the board.

BizFed members mobilized heavily in opposition to this. Thank you to the following BizFed members who either signed coalition letters, met with board members, or testified at today’s meeting. Together, we can defeat this misguided measure!
