Posted June 9th, 2021 | Status:

Yesterday the Metropolitan Water District (MWD), Southern California’s largest water supplier, chose Adel Hagekhalil as their new General Manager, replacing retiring longtime leader Jeff Kightlinger. He comes to the MWD with a wealth of experience and good working relationships with a wide-range of community groups and industries.

An engineer by trade, Hagekhalil is the Executive Director and General Manager of LA City’s Bureau of Street Services (StreetsLA). Appointed by Eric Garcetti in 2018, Hagekhalil was charged with managing and upgrading Los Angeles’ street network and urban forest.

Prior to his service with StreetsLA, he was Assistant Director for the City’s Bureau of Sanitation. He also served for 9 years as Board member and recently President with the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) and led the development of the National Resiliency Plan for the Water Sector as part of President Obama’s National Infrastructure Advisory Council (NIAC).

We look forward to working with Adel Hagekhalil in this new role and wish him much success as he moves forward.

We are also grateful for the incredible leadership of Jeff Kightlinger and his service providing reliable water to our region over the past 15 years.
