Speaker Rendon Announces Appointment to South Coast Air Quality Management District Governing Board
SACRAMENTO— Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon (D-Lakewood) today announced the appointment of Veronica Padilla-Campos to the South Coast Air Quality Management District (South Coast AQMD) Governing Board.
“I’m excited to have this new voice on the board. Her perspective on environmental justice will be a clear asset to a body that has so much influence on how the environment impacts people in my district,” said Rendon. “I especially welcome her ability to think outside the issue silos. Jobs are part of environmental policy and Padilla-Campos is committed to making those clean jobs.”
Padilla-Campos has served as Executive Director of Pacoima Beautiful since 2013, a nonprofit dedicated to advancing environmental justice in the San Fernando Valley. Previously, she was co-executive director for ICON CDC, and served on the North Valley Area Planning Commission for the City of Los Angeles. Padilla-Campos has a Master of Arts degree in Urban Planning from UCLA.
Padilla-Campos is replacing Dr. William A. Burke, who is retiring after 27 years of service to the Board. Her start date is June 1, 2021. She will fill the remainder of the four-year term which ends January 15, 2022. Compensation is $100 per day, not to exceed $1000 per month, plus necessary expenses.
