Government Relations Director
Lara has led a successful career in public service. She served on the Monrovia City Council for 15 years including two years as the city’s elected Mayor, working to create affordable housing opportunities, childcare spaces, and educational programs. Lara has been a Member of the Board of Directors of League of California Cities and the National League of Cities as well as the President of Women in Municipal Government. She has worked as a welfare fraud investigator and
children’s emergency response social worker for Los Angeles County and has conducted Spanish-language political training for women in Latin America.
Lara was born in Cuba and immigrated to the United States at a young age without her parents to live with relatives. She holds a BA in Sociology from California State University Los Angeles and a Masters in Social Welfare from UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs.
