The early chamber men were boosters, often to a fault, but likes their counterparts across the country they changed to meet the times. Ferguson says, “… the lingering impression of these organizations as comprising puffy and varicose men, who suffer from a kind of whooping cough over having whooped it up so long for the home town, is largely false.”
The chamber of commerce was formed in 1915 as the successor to the Town Improvements Association. Today the chamber is host to hundreds of businesses, events and classes that help to improve the life and businesses of El Monte and South El Monte.
