Action Alert: Tell Governor Newsom to REOPEN the Economy

Share This :
On Wednesday, Governor Newsom issued an order closing indoor restaurants, bars, wineries and tasting rooms, entertainment centers, movie theaters, zoos, museums and card rooms for the next three weeks in Los Angeles and 18 other counties as a response to the increase in COVID-19 cases. We all support the safe reopening of our economy - but we have concerns with the mass closure of small businesses who have made significant investments and sacrifices to meet the proper safety protocols.  BizFed has joined a coalition that strongly opposes the Governors recent overreach and asks that the Governor consider these three alternatives instead: 1) Require the State to use emergency funds to augment funding for county health departments and enforcement divisions to oversee enforcement of reopening regulations. Authorize counties to grant immediate reopening for all restaurants and bars that demonstrate compliance to the county reopening regulations. 2) The creation of an Emergency State Business Interruption Fund to cover all business expenses related to reopening in June 2020 as well as all losses including displaced revenue related to the current and future closures. 3) Creation of a Business Closure Avoidance Task Force which would work directly with state and local officials in the implementation of Point 5 in the Five Point Economic and Public Health Recovery Plan which specifically calls for Mandatory Testing and creating Recovery Centers as the dual alternative to shutting down any segment of the economy.
Please join us by adding your logo to the coalition in support of the three actions. Logos needed by noon Monday. It is important the business community remain united, stand up to government overreach, and ask the government to come up with solutions instead of more mass closures. Thank you for your consideration. If you have any questions, please contact sarah.wiltfong@bizfed.org who is overseeing this issue. In this together, Tracy Hernandez Founding CEO, BizFed
