VICTORY ALERT: AB 1395 (Muratsuchi) defeated in the 11th hour
AB 1395 (Muratsuchi), which would have required 90% reduction in emissions by 2045, FAILED passage in the legislature on Friday, killing it for this legislative session. It was granted reconsideration and could be heard again next year.
The final vote was 14 ayes, 12 noes, and 14 abstentions. Thank you to the Senators who spoke out in opposition to this bill, including Los Angeles Senators Senator Durazo and Senator Hertzberg.
It is estimated that AB 1395 would have cost Californians $4 trillion dollars over the next 25 years. It would have cost every household in California $5,600 to $10,700 annually, made building housing more expensive by a minimum of $50,000 per home and risked hundreds of thousands of California jobs.
A coalition of over 60 business organizations mobilized in opposition to this unfair government overreach. Thank you to those who called legislative offices, wrote letters, and engaged on social media against this bill. Our collective advocacy made a difference!
