ACTION ALERT: Support feasibility study for nation’s largest green hydrogen system

Share This :

You've likely already heard about Angeles Link, a proposal to develop the nation’s largest green hydrogen infrastructure system in Los Angeles. The concept was presented last month by BizFed member SoCalGas and has begun making its way through our vetting and voting processes. We're emailing you to let you know that BizFed committees – including our Executive Committee members – have now attended presentations about Angeles Link and voted to support SoCalGas' Project Memorandum Account Application to the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC).

This application allows SoCalGas to begin tracking the incremental costs associated with stakeholder engagement and preliminary engineering, design, and environmental work for Angeles Link. It's still early in the process and we want to be very clear: BizFed members have voted to support the company's application to track costs of the feasibility study. If the proposed project moves forward, SoCalGas will likely bring this issue back to BizFed so our members can consider supporting the building of the infrastructure system.

Businesses and infrastructure providers throughout the region are under increasing pressure to meet the state’s aggressive climate goals and stringent air quality standards. All types of hydrogen have the potential to supercharge our regional economy in innovative and sustainable ways. BizFed supports an "all-of-the-above" approach to our energy portfolio.

WHY IT MATTERS

As California makes strides to meet emissions reduction goals, it's important to explore all opportunities that diversify and expand our energy portfolio, and ensure energy reliability and affordability. Green hydrogen and other types of hydrogen are emerging as an energy source that can help decarbonize our energy portfolio. Green hydrogen has the potential to be produced entirely from renewable electricity and expands our renewable energy storage capabilities. Proponents say it's especially useful in reducing emissions in hard-to-electrify sectors, such as manufacturing and heavy-duty trucking.

JOB CREATION & ECONOMIC GROWTH

Green hydrogen technology is projected to generate approximately $140 billion in revenue and support 700,000 U.S. jobs by 2030. Federal funding totaling $9 billion has been dedicated to building four hydrogen hubs throughout the nation. SoCalGas's Angeles Link proposal could catalyze the build-out of a green hydrogen network in Los Angeles that could attract billions in new investments to the region and create jobs, stimulating both our economy and workforce pipeline while positioning LA as the nation's green tech leader with all types of hydrogen.

NEXT STEPS

BizFed has drafted a coalition letter in support of the Project Memorandum Account Application that SoCalGas has been submitted to the CPUC for review. We encourage you to visit the links we've provided and consider adding your logo to the coalition letter once you've fully explored this idea.

LOGOS ARE DUE BY 12 P.M. ON FRIDAY, MARCH 18TH
