Background
For the past several years, the BizFed Annual Poll has shown that the number one issue facing BizFed members is "high taxes and fees." In this light, the BizFed Executive Board voted to oppose SB 1298 because it would carve out a certain service (stormwater) from Proposition 218’s requirement for voters to approve or disapprove new taxes, fees, and assessments. If passed, SB 1298 would add to the state’s high tax/fee environment by making it easier for local governments to raise revenue from property owners.
