ACTION ALERT - Tell the CPUC to STOP Moratorium on Gas Services
Dear Friend, In a unnecessary and shocking turn of events this past week - the CPUC issued a proposed resolution to prevent SoCalGas from connecting new service to all new commercial and industrial developments in the affected LA County area through this winter - and intend to vote on this measure by January 11th. Over 400 businesses with permits in the works could be halted as a result of this resolution. Businesses affected include restaurants, a hospital network, a university, and hotels. Please - join us in telling the CPUC that you OPPOSE this measure and believe that SoCalGas should continue to use Aliso Canyon for new commercial and industrial developments. For your convenience, we have written the below sample letter. You can send your note to the CPUC electronically by clicking here.
Michael Picker President California Public Utilities Commission 505 Van Ness Avenue San Francisco, CA 94102 President Picker: We are contacting you on behalf of [your organization], to express our strong opposition to the suggested emergency moratorium on new gas service connections served by Aliso Canyon. Aliso Canyon is pivotal in covering the peak demands of cooling and heating for 11 million Southern Californians, thousands of businesses and is important to our regional economy. The proposed moratorium on new gas hook-ups could jeopardize projects that are under construction or in the planning stages, as well as new gas service connections to businesses. This would result in costly delays that adversely impact LA area businesses. As you have already stated, LA County does not have an alternative gas source. The answer to this then is not ban new connections, instead smart and reasonable conservation efforts should be used to avert any disruption to customers. We ask that you immediately reconsider your resolution and help LA County find reasonable solutions energy shortages – not a moratorium that will ultimately hurt businesses and residents alike.
