The largest free-trade accord in a generation was unveiled this morning in Atlanta. Consensus among all 12 Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) participating nations, which include
Japan, Mexico, Canada, Australia, Brunei, Chile, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, Vietnam and the United States was reached after a week of talks aimed at closing the gaps on several lingering disputes.
There will be at least three months of debate, followed by a Congressional vote.
Because Trade Promotion Authority passed in June 2015, there can be no amendments or filibuster.
Support for TPP depends on each of you, your members and constituents! Obama must wait 90 days before he signs and sends the agreement to Congress, and the text of the accord must be made public for at least 60 of those days. The congressional vote is likely to happen in January, just before the Iowa caucuses.
It is now more important than ever that you contact the LA Congressional Delegation, and let them know why TPP matters to for your industry.

If contacting by phone: "Dear ______, On behalf of _______, I urge you to support the Trans-Pacific Partnership, which will deliver jobs, spur growth, increase our exports, and bring benefits for our workers, businesses and communities throughout Los Angeles County."
If contacting by email: "Dear ______, On behalf of _______, I urge you to support the Trans-Pacific Partnership. As America's gateway to Asia, no state has more to gain from TPP than California and no city more than Los Angeles. TPP will deliver jobs, spur growth and increase our exports, and bring benefits for our workers, businesses and communities throughout Los Angeles County. What we do in TPP will matter for the global trading system. TPP countries make up a third of global trade and 40 percent of global GDP. Ultimately, TPP will serve as a platform for LA County regional integration, and support and bolster the multilateral trading system."
