We urgently need you to raise your vital voice. The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors is poised to vote on the county's proposed Climate Action Plan (CAP) on Tuesday, April 16. We're encouraged to report that BizFed leaders have engaged in a series of constructive conversations with the county's Department of Regional Planning staff regarding this plan.
However, we remain concerned about a number of provisions in the draft proposal, particularly the lack of clarity around whether the plan is "aspirational." If it's not deemed aspirational, the plan could have a significant negative impact on jobs, economic growth, and development in our region.
🚨 The draft CAP also includes an infeasible employment density goal of 300 jobs per acre by 2030. Currently, the county's unincorporated areas have an employment density of one job for every six acres of land.
🚨 The plan also calls for 90% of water to be locally sourced. Currently, approximately 30% of the county's water is locally sourced, while the rest is imported.
In an effort to ensure these aspirational goals do not hinder the future of development in LA County and beyond, we have requested county supervisors and planning staff to include language in the CAP clarifying that the plan is not legally binding.
