Action Alert

ACTION ALERT – LA County Private Developer Arts Fee coming to a vote on Tues. 7/23/10

Tomorrow, the LA County Board of Supervisors will vote to enact the Private Developer Arts Fee Ordinance.  If approved, market-rate residential, commercial, industrial development projects in Unincorporated LA County with a valuation of over $750,000 will have a 1% fee imposed on their project that will go to fund Civic Art projects in LA County.

BizFed and BIA have been active mobilizing a larger coalition of concerned stakeholders including but not limited to; Apartment Association of Greater LA, BOMA, California Apartment Association, LA Area Chamber of Commerce, NAIOP and VICA. They will testify against this 1% Arts Fee stating what its impact will do to the cost of housing and reduce job creation.

We will request delaying the implementation of the fee to residential development for 90 days to allow a full analysis on the impacts of these fees. With upcoming ordinances that the County will be reviewing such as Inclusionary Zoning and Compact Lot Subdivision, this new fee may impact the rate of increasing multi-family, mixed use and single-family residential development in the County in the middle of our housing crisis.

Thank you to those leaders who have submitted comments and who have committed to testify tomorrow. We will still need that energy and enthusiasm to articulate that adding this arts fee will contribute to our housing affordability and housing supply crisis.
