ACTION ALERT: Tell SCAQMD You Support Safety Enhancements through a MOU and OPPOSE a MHF Ban or Phase-Out The South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) is reviewing oil refineries’ use of Modified Hydrofluoric Acid (MHF) via Proposed Rule 1410, which would either require additional, enhanced safety systems or a ban of MHF completely. A ban would likely cause two Southern California refineries to cease operations and gas prices to increase by 26 cents per gallon or moreaccording to the California Energy Commission. This would harm California’s economy and cause thousands of local refinery, contractor, supplier, and vendor jobs to be lost. BizFed is part of the “Californians for a Sustainable Economy” (CaSE) coalition, which includes labor unions, businesses, and community members, and we need YOUR help! ACTION ITEMS: Please choose to do one or all of the following.
  1. Join the “Californians for a Sustainable Economy” (CaSE) coalition at https://sustainableeconomy.energy/take-action/
  2. Email the SCAQMD Governing Board Members telling them you OPPOSE banning or phasing-out MHF and that you recommend they move forward with a Memorandum of Understanding to implement safety technology enhancements. Click here to visit the CaSE website and submit an easy-to-send email with pre-formatted talking points.

Notes
  • We need to try to fill the front seats of the meeting room. As soon as you arrive, start filling seats in the front of the room and work your way back.
  • Public comment will be limited to one minute and any “repeat” comments will likely be cut off by the Refinery Committee Chairman, so personalize your comments as much as possible.
  • You do not have to speak; we need to show our strength in numbers by filling the room.
  • Click here for talking points if you do plan to speak.
