VICTORY ALERT - Aliso Canyon natural gas storage facility deemed safe and approved to reopen! OUR COLLECTIVE VOICE WAS HEARD. Continuing this reliable source of clean energy to cover the peak demands of cooling and heating for 11 million So Cal people and thousands of businesses is vital. On July 19th the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) and the Division of Oil, Gas, and Geothermal Resources (DOGGR) cleared SoCalGas to resume limited injections at its natural gas storage facility in Northern LA County. BizFed and so many of its individual members have long been supporters of SAFE REOPENING of Aliso Canyon natural gas storage facility. Our members took action by sending letters, writing op-eds, posting on social media, signing petitions, hosting events and giving statements at local hearings to ensure Southern California maintains a steady flow of energy and avoids crippling brown and blackouts. Injection into the wells will not happen immediately. In addition to the industry-leading technologies and new practices at the facility, SoCalGas has been asked to comply with several requirements before and soon after reduced injections take place, including a leak survey and several flyovers to measure methane emissions. This facility will be held to THE MOST RIGOROUS monitoring, inspection and safety requirements in the nation!
We thank SoCalGas for giving us constant feedback and transparent information during the entire public process. Our members responded and worked diligently to ensure the safe reopening. Congratulations to all,
Sincerely, Tracy Hernandez Founding CEO, BizFed
