Los Angeles County Business Federation
Founded in 2008, the Los Angeles County Business Federation, better known as BizFed, is a
grassroots alliance of more than 215 business organizations representing 410,000
employers that employ 5 million residents throughout LA County. BizFed's proactive, fast-paced Policy Team manages a variety of member-directed policy committees to organize,
educate, and ultimately advocate on critical issues affecting business growth, job creation,
and economic vitality in Southern California and beyond. BizFed's public policy engagement
reaches into all 88 cities throughout Los Angeles County, as well as Sacramento and
Washington, D.C.
Position
Immediate, full-time opening for an experienced Policy Manager to take ownership of all
advocacy and logistical tasks related to his/her responsibilities, while supporting the policy
team’s work, in addition to building relationships with policymakers and developing winning
strategies. The Policy Manager would join a small, savvy, hard-charging cohesive policy
team.
The Policy Manager should have excellent research and public speaking skills, effective
written and verbal communication skills, problem-solving, leadership, organizational,
analytical and interpersonal skills, and advanced knowledge in computer application and
advocacy tools. He/she must have initiative and be able to work effectively under pressure,
independently, and with the policy team.
BizFed’s office is located off of the I-5 and I-710 freeways in the City of Commerce, with
free parking. Typically, hours are generally from 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday
through attendance at some evening or weekend events may be necessary. This is a full-
time, exempt position with a competitive salary and benefits packet which includes medical,
dental and other benefits.
Education/experience requirements
A successful candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree (preferably in social science, public
policy, political science, or related areas) and must have at least two years of experience
planning, managing, and implementing advocacy projects. Understanding of California and
Los Angeles housing and transportation issues is a plus.
Job Description
Public Policy Management, Advocacy, and Member Relations
- Manage all aspects of BizFed’s policy committee, communications, and advocacy
work for assigned policy committees.
- Research and write briefing documents, issue papers, advocacy letters, public
testimony, email alerts, social media content, press releases, presentations, and
other materials as assigned.
- Serve as an advocate for BizFed’s diverse membership on the federal, state, regional
and local levels of government through coalition work and grassroots organizing and
educating and empowering BizFed members to be effective advocates.
- Responsible for representing BizFed, its Board of Directors, and members before
elected officials and the general public.
- Staff BizFed’s public policy committees (Anti-Poverty & Economic Mobility; Health
Care & Life Sciences; Transportation), special task forces, and working groups as
assigned.
- Track issue development and legislation in assigned jurisdictions, as well as maintain
regular interaction with key public officials and their staff.
- Execute BizFed’s advocacy and communication strategy in coordination with the
BizFed team, members, and leadership.
- Responsible for maintaining BizFed’s ongoing relationships with organizational
members.
- With support from Senior Program Director and Operations Managers, plan,
coordinate, and manage execution of at least 5 Leadership Roundtables targeting
local, regional, state, and federal elected and appointed officials based on policy
portfolios and relationships.
- Help to identify and recruit new members and support the BizFed development goals
by sharing contact details and other information about prospective BizFed Investor
Members.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- At least two years of experience working to influence policy and practices of
government and regulators through advocacy and policy development.
- Expertise with MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, and Powerpoint), and Google

- Paid Vacation: After 90 days of employment, employees are entitled to paid
vacation based on years of employment as follows:
- 0 Years of Employment: 1 week per year
- 1-4 Years: 2 weeks per year
- 4-8 Years: 3 week per year
- 8 + Years: 4 week per year
- Sick Leave: Accrued at 1 hour for every 30 hours worked up to a maximum of 72
hours. (Eligible for use after first 90 days of employment.)
- Bereavement Leave: Up to 3 days of paid time off in the event of the death of an
immediate family member or 1 day paid time off for an extended family member.
- Family & Medical Leave: Employees are eligible for unpaid leave in accordance
with the Family & Medical Leave Act.
- Mileage Reimbursement: Mileage reimbursed according to currently allowable IRS
rate. Details in BizFed's mileage and parking reimbursement policy.
