INFO ALERT – Los Angeles County Moves to Reopen Several Areas

Yesterday, the County of Los Angeles agreed to align with state orders to move further into Stage 2 of the states resiliency roadmap.

They also instructed the Department of Public Health to apply for a variance for the county as a whole in order to move to Stage 3 with the rest of the state. Originally, there was a motion by Supervisors Barger and Hahn to ask for the Governor to look at LA County as separate regions to allow other areas to open faster. This, however, was ultimately denied.

Examples of activities now permitted in LA County under the changes enacted yesterday:

Faith-based organizations may resume services, with the number of congregants limited to less than 25% of the building’s capacity, or a maximum of 100 people, whichever is lower.

All retail, including those located in indoor and outdoor retail shopping centers may now open for business at 50% capacity.

Flea markets, swap meets and drive-in movie theaters may resume operations.

Pools, hot tubs and saunas that are in a multi-unit residence or part of a homeowners association may now open.
In-person protests are permitted as long as attendance is limited to 25% of the area’s maximum occupancy, or a maximum of 100 attendees, whichever is lower.

Other “high risk” areas, such as bars, nightclubs, hair/nail salons, gyms and malls still remain closed.

The order emphasizes that physical distancing requirements, cloth face coverings and other safety protocols must be observed as the recovery progresses.

The County is expecting as early as the end of this week to hear from the Governors office about variance, and allowing the county more flexibility when reopening.
