Rex Knowles, Director – External Affairs, is responsible for local government relations and community engagement for Verizon’s West Region. He has over 30 years of experience in the telecommunications industry working with state and local governmental agencies and elected officials.
Until it was acquired by Verizon in 2017, Rex worked for over 20 years for XO Communications. Prior to that he worked for Sprint/United Telephone Company – Northwest in Hood River, Oregon and Sprint/Central Telephone Company in Las Vegas, Nevada. Additionally, Rex has taught telecommunications/cyber policy courses as an adjunct instructor for Weber State University and has served as a board member for the Universal Service Administration Company (USAC).
A Portland, Oregon native, Rex earned a Business Administration: Finance/Law degree from Portland State University. He and his wife Denise currently reside in South Jordan, Utah and have three children and four grandchildren. He enjoys cooking (eating), playing basketball, golf, snowboarding and playing with his grandchildren.
