The Los Angeles County Business Federation, BizFed, has issued the following letter.

Dear Board President Garcia and UTLA Board President Caputo-Pearl:

RE: Contract Negotiations between LAUSD and UTLA

We have previously written to both of your organizations asking for a resolution without a strike. Now that teachers are on strike, we reach out again and ask for both parties to return back to the negotiating table and find a solution that gets educators back in classrooms as soon as possible.

We can all agree that in this current impasse, students have the most to lose.  Every day that teachers are on strike, students are falling behind and their safety is at risk.  Their parents are put in the tenuous position of sending them to a school that is not able to educate them, or missing work to keep their kids at home.

While the effects of this strike ripple across our communities and our regional economy, at the center of it all are the more than half a million children who should be in school today and who need a functioning public-school system.

Thank you for considering our concerns. If our community of business leaders can be helpful, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

Sincerely,

Steve Bullock
