GOVERNOR NEWSOM ALIGNS WITH BUSINESS AS HE ANNOUNCED PRIORITIES IN HIS FIRST STATE BUDGET

Governor Newsom focuses on housing supply and affordability as the number one issue causing poverty in the Golden State

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Jan. 10, 2019) – “The priorities that Governor Newsom defined in his first State Budget today are worthy of praise,” said Tracy Hernandez, BizFed Founding CEO.“His ‘All In California’ approach keeps our collective focus on California’s poverty crisis. Our State has the highest poverty rate in the nation, which devastates our communities and impacts our economic competitiveness.”

Los Angeles County, sadly, has the highest poverty rate in all of California. In 2018, the Los Angeles County Business Federation, BizFed, launched a mission to lift one million Angelenos out of poverty in the next decade.

Our recent #BizFedPulsePoll discovered that the majority of business leaders believe housing and job-training/education are the key elements in fighting poverty in the LA region. “I am pleased that Governor Newsom aligns with BizFed in choosing to tackle housing affordability and strengthen education in his first budget proposal.” said Steve Bullock, BizFed Chair.
