ACTION ALERT: Tell Sacramento to Slow Down and Get it Right on Minimum Wage

Share This :
THURSDAY the California State Assembly is expected to vote on a bill raising the minimum wage to $15 per hour statewide. Gov. Brown just annouced this plan YESTERDAY -- a plan that was developed without input from the employers -- especially small, mom and pop businesses -- who will be most affected. The state's minimum wage just increased to $10 per hour this past January, and this plan wouldn't start raising wages until January 2017, so what's the rush to pass the bill this week, with no practical opportunity for voters, employers, and other key stakeholders to review the details? (Shouldn't we expect our legislators to take the time to get it right?) Can you please email LA County's Assemblymembers right now and urge them to SLOW DOWN AND TAKE THE TIME TO GET THE DETAILS RIGHT on Minimum Wage?

Please slow down this process and take the time to get the details right. Gov. Brown just announced this minimum wage plan on Monday, and this plan wouldn’t start to raise wages until January 2017, so what’s the rush?

Just a few months after a statewide minimum wage increase to $10 per hour, the state is now considering raising it to $15 per hour by 2022 with no input from the employers — especially small, mom and pop businesses — who will be most affected. Details matter, especially for legislation of this magnitude that will affect virtually every California household.

Employers will shoulder the brunt of this policy, and they deserve a reasonable opportunity to be part of the process. Instead of jamming through a bill that could have dramatic economic consequences, slow down and get it right.
