ABOUT THE LA-ART GONDOLA PROJECT

The LA Art (Los Angeles Aerial Rapid Transit) Gondola Project proposes a privately-funded, zero-emission aerial gondola system to connect Union Station to Dodger Stadium via a route over Chinatown and Los Angeles State Historic Park. The project aims to provide a seven-minute, high-capacity transit option that would reduce traffic and emissions for events and daily use.

PROJECT DETAILS

  • Route: A 1.2-mile system from Union Station to Dodger Stadium, passing through a station at Los Angeles State Historic Park.
  • Capacity: Designed to carry approximately 5,000 passengers per hour in each direction.
  • Sponsorship: The project is a privately funded initiative, initially submitted by Aerial Rapid Transit Technology (ARTT)
  • Timeline: The project began its environmental review process in 2019, with construction potentially starting as early as 2026, aiming for completion before the 2028 Olympic Games.

BENEFITS OF THE PROJECT

  • Reduced Traffic: Supporters argue it will alleviate congestion and traffic jams around Dodger Stadium and in the city.
  • Sustainability: It's a zero-emission transit option that would decrease greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Accessibility: Provides a fast, high-capacity connection to a major city destination.
