BizFed Director of Advocacy Sarah Wiltfong was quoted in a Daily News article about the unexpected closure of Sweet Lady Jane, an iconic bakery that served Los Angeles-area communities for 35 years. The headline-grabbing closure helped shed light on the rising costs and growing regulatory challenges associated with doing business in California. Sweet Lady Jane is one of numerous local businesses that shuttered recently.
Wiltfong pointed to inflation, wage mandates, regulatory hurdles and “other challenges that disproportionately hurt small business owners” as contributing factors in an interview with Daily News reporter Linh Tat.
“Recent business closures in the headlines should serve as a red-alert warning to policymakers,” Wiltfong said. “Business and civic leaders must work together to cultivate a healthier business environment before we lose more jobs and iconic institutions.”
