Measure M Plan ACTION ALERT - BizFed leaders needed to write to Legislators from overriding the will of LA County Voters At the June 20th BizFed Board of Directors meeting, BizFed members officially voted to oppose SB 268 (Mendoza) which would restructure the composition of the LA County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) Board of Directors.  BizFed members articulated concern that changing the composition of the Metro Board, especially after the historic vote (over 71%) in favor of Measure M, would change the agreement Metro made with Los Angeles County voters regarding accountability, governance, implementation and project delivery. These are key areas in which BizFed is an active participant and is monitoring very carefully. This Wednesday June 28th, there will be a hearing in Sacramento at the Assembly's Local Government Committee on this legislation, SB 268 (Mendoza). We urge members to submit their own letters communicating your opposition to SB 268 (Medoza) to the Assembly Local Government Committee, our LA County Assemblymembers on the committee Richard Bloom and Sebastian Ridley-Thomas and key committee Assemblymembers outside LA in Assemblymembers Ana Caballero (Monterey County), Tim Grayson (Contra Costa) and Lorena Gonzalez Fletcher (San Diego). Please spread the word and join us to stop this reckless piece of legislation. Send your letters to; Assembly Local Government Committee Chief Consultant Debbie Michel,  Debbie.Michel@asm.ca.gov , Legislative Director for Local Assemblymember Richard Bloom,  Guy Strahl,  Guy.Strahl@asm.ca.gov , Legislative Director for Assemblymember Sebastian Ridley-Thomas, Ryan Pessah, Ryan.Pessah@asm.ca.gov , Legislative Director for Assemblymember Ana Caballero, Adriana Zerioadriana.zerio@asm.ca.gov , Legislative Director for Assemblymember Tim Grayson, Shannon McKinleyshannon.mckinley@asm.ca.gov , Legislative Deputy for Assemblymember Lorena Gonzalez Fletcher, Laurel Brodzinskylaurel.brodzinsky@asm.ca.gov MEETING DETAILS WHAT:  State Assembly - Local Government Committee Hearing WHEN: Wednesday, June 28th at 1:30pm WHERE: State Capitol, Room 447, Sacramento, CA 95814, CLICK HERE to listen to the hearing live on Wednesday 6/28 CLICK HERE to download BizFed's letter Opposing SB 268 (Mendoza)  BACKGROUND
  • Local Control is at stake; 71% of LA County voters were in favor of Measure M because of the inclusive bottoms-up approach the Metro Board had in developing a list of specific projects all throughout LA County, why should Sacramento legislators meddle with the will of LA County decisions in a vacuum?
  • A majority of the funding for Metro comes from local measures approved by Los Angeles County voters not the State Legislature.
  • Expanding the Metro Board will cost taxpayers more as this will increase expenses, increase bureaucracy and increase the likelihood that critical voter approved projects will not be delivered in a timely manner.
  • Increased board composition has the potential to create gridlock within the Metro Board that will impede voter approved LA County projects negatively affecting our local economy which will harm the State's economy.
