ACTION ALERT: Urge Newsom to sign or veto 30 BizFed bills

Did you lean into our eleventh-hour advocacy before the holiday weekend? We have several updates for you from the final days – and hours – of the Legislature's two-week "Floor-Mageddon" that saw hundreds of bills advance to Governor Gavin Newsom's desk. He now has until September 30 to sign or veto bills passed by the Legislature.

The slew of bills awaiting his pen include AB 98 (Carrillo, Reyes) and SB 1103 (Menjivar), which are both opposed by BizFed, plus 17 other bills opposed by BizFed and 11 bills supported by BizFed.

🚨 AB 98: This last-minute gut-and-amend bill was approved 22-16 by the Senate and 46-17 by the Assembly. It imposes restrictive mandates and setbacks on the warehouse and logistics industry that threatens livelihoods and chokes the regional supply chain.

🚨 SB 1103: This bill moved forward with eleventh-hour amendments, passing the Senate on a 22-9 vote and the Assembly on a 44-17 vote. It imposes commercial lease mandates that fail to recognize the distinction between commercial and residential real estate dynamics, hurting property owners and impeding job growth.

Will Newsom wait until the deadline to take action on certain measures? Hours before the two-year legislative session ended, Newsom called for a special session to address high gasoline prices in California. Both chambers have until November 30, which marks the formal end of the two-year session, to comply. Our advocacy team is in close communications with key players. Look out for updates and marching orders.

A total of 30 bills awaiting Newsom's action are opposed or supported by BizFed. Sign on to our campaigns to amplify our calls for his signature or veto.
