INFO ALERT: Mayor Bass signs ED4 to boost business

Share This :

Los Angeles is open for business – and Mayor Karen Bass is open to solutions and suggestions advanced by business leaders. The mayor signed an executive directive today to create a steering committee charged with improving the city's business climate, especially for small business owners. City Council President Paul Krekorian stood with the mayor to commit the council's full support for her directive.

We thank the following BizFed members for standing with us at this morning's signing ceremony in Toluca Lake. We turned out in full force to express the broad business community's support for this multi-department directive.

  • Marian Jocz - United Chambers of the San Fernando Valley
  • Nella McOsker - Central City Association
  • Andrea Nunn - LA Area Chamber
  • Lilly Rocha - Latino Restaurant Association
  • Darrel Sauceda - LA Latino Chamber
  • Nancy Hoffman Vanyek - Greater San Fernando Valley Chamber
  • Stuart Waldman - Valley Industry & Commerce Association

NUTS & BOLTS

Executive Directive 4 (ED 4) establishes the Los Angeles Local Business Steering Committee. Representatives from various city agencies will sit on the committee, led by the Mayor’s Office of Business & Economic Development. The steering committee will:

  • Review business taxes and fees, and identify reasonable reductions that can be made to promote business growth.
  • Reduce delays around business engagement by modernizing government processes.
  • Conduct a comparative analysis of business climates to determine what's working in other cities attracting more employers.

BIG BOOST FOR BUSINESS

This is a major step forward for job creators of all sizes. Mayor Bass's executive directive comes on the heels of relentless BizFed advocacy for streamlined permitting, close reviews of taxes and fees, modernized city contracting, and other solutions to reduce the costs and hassles of doing business in LA. We thank our leaders who kept the drumbeat going for months at City Hall, in direct communications with city leaders, and on digital platforms.

The plan unveiled today directly addresses concerns BizFed members shared with the Bass administration.

It also includes multiple solutions our members proposed to Deputy Mayor for Business & Economic Development Rachel Freeman, a former BizFed Executive Committee member, during her first week in the newly created city role. We encourage members to share the posts below. Remind Angelenos (and civic leaders in other jurisdictions) that LA is open for business – and business makes LA work.

Onward!
