The city clerk missed its legally required deadline to release results from the tourism wage referendum that the Alliance for Tourism, Jobs and Progress — of which BizFed is a proud member- to overturn the $30 hour minimum wage.
This last-minute disclosure is not an isolated oversight; rather, it highlights a troubling and ongoing lack of transparency that has clouded the verification process since its inception.
Adding to the concern, opponents of the referendum are already scheduling a press event for Tuesday and have invited Council Members to join them in discussing results that have not yet been formally released. This move follows their costly campaign marked by misinformation and intimidation. Given these issues, the Alliance has previously requested that the District Attorney look into the conduct of the opposition and the overall lack of clarity in the process.
Los Angeles residents deserve accountability from their government. We urge the Mayor and City Council to press the City Clerk to release the results without delay and to restore confidence in our democratic institutions.
The Alliance's full statement on the issue is attached below. We anticipate additional information in the coming days and wanted you to be among the first to know.
