ACTION ALERT: Stormwater Tax! After several attempts to work with Assemblymember Holden’s Office and county officials to place proper protections in AB 1180, a bill that will enable the county to place a property tax on the ballot, our voices have gone unheeded. We ask that you contact our local LA County Supervisors and Assemblyman Chris Holden's office to place proper protections in AB 1180 before it goes to a vote. For your convenience a draft email is below and a sample letter is here. Please send your note and letter to the following staff: tvillegas@bos.lacounty.gov jrivera-olivas@bos.lacounty.gov kyoung@bos.lacounty.gov cperry@bos.lacounty.gov djordan@bos.lacounty.gov Victor.Munoz@asm.ca.gov Together we can defeat this bill and protect taxpayers! _________________
Dear Los Angeles County Supervisors,
My name is [insert name] and I am contacting you on behalf of [insert organization].
In May, the county passed a motion regarding water resiliency. The motion included a legislative component that provides tax authority to the flood control district -- AB 1180 (Holden). While we understand the county’s intent and share the common goals of conserving and capturing our storm water, we are very concerned about AB1180 (Holden) in its current form.
More must be done to ensure that the money resulting from a possible parcel tax contains basic protections and the most effective improvements are implemented.
Attached is our letter of opposition outlining vital amendments. Please work with Assemblymember Holden’s office to accomplish these goals and do not allow AB 1180 to continue without proper protections to the people paying for the improvements.
Sincerely,
