ACTION ALERT: Oppose aggressive wage mandates that threaten jobs

Share This :

We need your vital voice again on a familiar issue. Los Angeles is poised to consider yet another aggressive wage mandate that would threaten local jobs. We need all BizFed members to join us in pushing back against this city proposal that would devastate livelihoods and small businesses.

The LA City Council's Trade, Travel, & Tourism Committee is set to consider a $30 minimum wage for hotel and airport workers on Monday, September 23. That's a proposed hike of up to 66% from today's minimum wage! This would hurt businesses that are critically important – especially as LA prepares to host mega-events including the 2026 FIFA World Cup and 2028 Olympic & Paralympic Games.

City leaders need to hear from YOU. Remind our elected representatives about the vital importance of supporting our small businesses, the overall health of our economy, and thousands of local jobs. An independent economic analysis found that this proposed wage hike would lead to an estimated $1.1 billion decline in spending and 15,000 job losses.

TAKE ACTION NOW

WHY IT MATTERS

🚨 UNSUSTAINABLE COSTS: Small businesses whose operations are uniquely tied to current market conditions – in a city and state where it is already notoriously difficult to do business – simply cannot afford these added costs.

🚨 JOB LOSSES & BUSINESS CLOSURES: According to an independent report from Oxford Economics, this proposed wage hike would lead to an estimated $1.1 billion decline in spending and 15,000 job losses. The livelihoods of countless employees and entrepreneurs – especially those from marginalized communities – are at stake!

🚨 LOCAL REVENUE DECLINE: This ordinance would slash local tax revenue by approximately $55 million, undermining our city’s ability to fund essential public services. Instead of helping to address our cost-of-living crisis, it will exacerbate the daily challenges facing Angelenos.
